BEFORE MY TIME
Originally after AOE went into hibernation (which is still happening-lol) my
brothers and I started jamming with 2 friends of ours-Tayo Varty on drums
and Mark Poy on keyboards.
I was pretty fascinated by a lot of what was happening soncially outside of
the straight up guitar rock so Mark was a big part of that initial journey.
It was the most creative period of my life. Everyone had a riff or a couple
of chord changes that would just evolve into a song with very little effort.
Tayo brought in the initial riff for Before My Time and the words came
quickly. Now when I hear it it has an almost gospel feel too it, if that
isn't too pretentious.
Between a life of excess and moving on from a successful band it felt
important to stake the claim 'I Won't Go Before My Time'.
By the time STATIC IN STEREO became what it became Tayo and Mark were no
longer in the mix but the song became the first single.
I remember the girl from Universal sitting in on mixes at Metalworks in
Toronto and after the first chorus of the song she said, 'This should be the
single.' Although her word wasn't law it was a universal(pun intended?)
feeling within our world.
I have done this song many times acoustically and in a full on loud setting
and it always brings me back to the time it was created. A very hopeful and
intoxicatingly creative time.
Your offences are inoffensive
I’m oblivious to your unscheduled attack
Your advances are ineffective
I’m impenetrable, not a man I’m a machine
I won’t go before my time
I feel so alive
I won’t go before my time
My day has arrived
I won’t go before my time
I feel so alive
I’m brand spankin’
Your language is incomprehensibl
Your rubber tongue could never dent the
Armoured ear
Your actions are ammunition for
My unexpected counter attack
I won’t go before my time
I’ve never felt this much alive
I won’t o before my time
Forever young forever high
