HEATHROW 4AM
Heathrow 4Am is funny because I had never been too Heathrow airport until
much later after the release of that song.
It could have been named Pearson 4AM or Stanfield Internation 4AM.
It was essentially written about being far away from the people you care
about. A musician knows it well. The loneliness of being on the road. You
can't wait to get off the road but then you can't wait to get back out
there.
It was written at the end of a very important relationship. I play it every
time I do an acoustic show.
My brother, Ryan played a theremin like Jimmy Page played during Whole Lotta
Love. That's those crazy whale sounds.
It has bits of Pink Floyd in there with a little Lou Reed. I know that
sounds weird but that's what it was for me. Maybe a little Queen too with
George Harrison on the guitar solo.
At the end of the album there is a noisy few minutes that we recorded for
the intro to Heathrow but used very little of. It was Ryan on theremin,
Steven Drake, our engineer on some kind of abused guitar and myself on a
second mutilated guitar. I remember using a screw driver on it. I believe it
was a Philips.
Yesterday’s a dream
Yesterday is now a lifetime away
Now here with scribbled thoughts
At Heathrow 4 A.M
While I fade...
I’ll fade away
Leaving you to find your own way
While I find the man I used to be
(Yesterday’s a dream)
I’ll fade and you’ll rise
To greet another day
As I fade away
From these ashes – another day for you
Still here with scribbled thoughts
At Heathrow 4 A.M
While I fade...
When I’d fall apart
You’d put me back together once again
When I’d come apart
You’d stitch me up I’d unravel anyway
I still come apart but...
